What I’ve Learned…
What I've Learned About Latin America and the Caribbean...
Columbia (the Gem of the Ocean) is spelled with a "u"; Colombia (the 26th largest nation in the world and 4th largest in South America) is spelled with an "o". Thanks, Bruce, for pointing this out!
While it may be hot at the beginning of our trip in Colombia when we travel through the Llanos (a grassy flatland), there might be snow showers up in the Andes in Peru. I packed gloves and a stocking cap!
I'd rather pack light and wash stuff out than haul around a ton of clothes. (I remember doing Nigeria for two weeks with three shirts, three pairs of underwear and three pairs of socks!) I think I'll repack and make my bag lighter...
There is a lot of mud in Colombia during the rainy season.
There are tiny bugs called "coloraditos" that can really inflict a lot of discomfort.
I've learned that there is a lot to learn...and that personally visiting these projects makes a lot of difference.
